Verlander Joins Giants on One-Year Deal

Justin Verlander has signed a one-year contract worth $15 million with the San Francisco Giants, pending a physical examination. This marks a significant move by the Giants' new President of Baseball Operations, Buster Posey, who took over in September. The Giants have also made headlines this offseason by securing free agent shortstop Willy Adames with a substantial seven-year, $182 million deal.

At 42 years old, Verlander, a three-time AL Cy Young Award winner, will bolster a Giants rotation that features All-Star right-hander Logan Webb. Last season, Verlander posted a 5-6 record with a 5.48 ERA over 17 starts for the Houston Astros, who won the AL West. With a career record of 262-147 and a 3.30 ERA across 526 starts, he leads all active players in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched, and complete games. His postseason experience is notable as well, with a 17-12 record and a 3.58 ERA in 38 appearances.

As the offseason progresses, other teams are also making significant moves. The New York Mets have invested heavily in free agency, while the Toronto Blue Jays are exploring options to fill gaps in their lineup. The Giants are also eyeing Japanese ace Roki Sasaki, who will be eligible to sign when the international signing period opens on January 15.
