India has made history at the Kho Kho World Cup 2025 held in New Delhi, clinching the championship titles for both the men`s and women`s teams. Under the leadership of captain Pratik Waikar, the men`s team showcased remarkable speed and strategy, while the women`s team, featuring standout player Nasreen Shaikh, displayed exceptional skill throughout the tournament.

The competition saw participation from 23 nations, with India emerging as a dominant force in the finals. The victory was celebrated by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who commended the teams for their dedication and hard work. The tournament`s atmosphere was electric, filled with enthusiasm and optimism for the future of kho kho, especially with aspirations for its inclusion in the Olympics, coinciding with India`s bid to host the 2036 Games in Ahmedabad.

Matches were played on a rectangular court, where teams alternated between attack and defense, with the objective of tagging opponents faster than the rival team.

While the absence of Pakistan was noted, it did not overshadow the excitement surrounding the event. International teams from the United States, England, and Australia participated, with a significant representation of expatriate Indians. The transition of kho kho from outdoor grassy fields to indoor mats has significantly boosted its profile, making it the third most-watched non-cricket sports tournament in India, following the Pro Kabaddi League and the Indian Super League football competition.
