Erik Read excelled at the FIS Alpine World Championships, while Canadian women skiers aim for top rankings in giant slalom.

Erik Read delivered a commendable performance at the 2025 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Saalbach, Austria. The veteran skier from Canmore secured 22nd place in the giant slalom event on February 14, showcasing his skills with a second run that was the second fastest of the day. Despite a significant mistake that hindered his overall standing, Read also finished 24th in slalom and 17th in the team combined event alongside fellow Canadian Brodie Seger.

On the women`s side, Canadian skiers are making their mark in the World Cup giant slalom events. Valérie Grenier leads the Canadian GS squad, currently sitting 12th in the standings with 129 points, despite missing the season opener in Sölden. Britt Richardson follows closely in 15th place with 86 points, having achieved a career-best seventh-place finish in Kronplatz. Cassidy Gray, ranked 41st, has also contributed valuable points for Canada this season. With only three GS events remaining before the Crystal Globe is awarded, the competition is heating up as skiers like Alice Robinson, Sara Hector, and Federica Brignone remain in contention for the title.
