Bumrah`s Injury Clouds Champions Trophy 2025 Hopes

Jasprit Bumrah's participation in the Champions Trophy 2025 is now in jeopardy following an injury sustained during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The fast bowler experienced discomfort after bowling just one over on the second day, prompting him to leave the field for scans. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding his fitness ahead of the crucial tournament, with selectors needing to finalize the squad by January 12, although adjustments can be made until February 13.

World Cup-winning physio Ramji Srinivasan has emphasized that Bumrah should only be included in the squad if he is fully fit. He noted that the toll of playing five consecutive Tests could lead to stress-related injuries, which may require an extensive recovery period of up to six months. Despite his injury, Bumrah had an impressive series, taking 32 wickets across five Tests, and he led India in two matches, securing one victory.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy concluded with India losing the series 1-3, marking the end of their decade-long dominance as Australia reclaimed the trophy. Bumrah's injury occurred during a pivotal moment in the fifth Test, where India was attempting to maintain a slender lead after bowling Australia out for 181. The team's overall performance has come under scrutiny, with former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar praising Rohit Sharma's leadership decisions during the series.
