Sunderland`s Isidor Secures Win Over Portsmouth

Sunderland maintained their push for promotion in the Sky Bet Championship with a narrow 1-0 victory against Portsmouth at the Stadium of Light. The decisive moment came early in the match when Wilson Isidor scored in the seventh minute, capitalizing on a well-placed pass from Eliezer Mayenda and firing the ball into the corner of the net. This victory marks back-to-back wins for Sunderland under manager Regis Le Bris in 2025.

Throughout the match, Sunderland created several opportunities to extend their lead. Patrick Roberts had a notable chance with a heeled attempt that was cleared off the line, thanks to a brilliant defensive effort from Adil Aouchiche. Just before halftime, Mayenda also came close, striking the side of the net, but Sunderland went into the break with a slim advantage.

Portsmouth's hopes of a comeback were dashed in the second half when Marlon Pack received a straight red card for pulling down Isidor after a defensive mix-up. This dismissal left Portsmouth with ten men and significantly hindered their chances of leveling the score.

With this result, Sunderland remains in contention for promotion, sitting fourth in the table with 50 points, just two points behind Burnley and Sheffield United, and three points behind league leaders Leeds. The match attracted an attendance of 39,846 fans, showcasing the strong support for Sunderland as they continue their campaign.

Portsmouth, on the other hand, finds themselves outside the bottom three only on goal difference, although they do have games in hand on the teams below them, providing a glimmer of hope for their survival in the Championship.
