Cyprien Sarrazin Out of ICU After Training Crash

French skier Cyprien Sarrazin has been moved out of intensive care following a serious training accident in Bormio, Italy. While preparing for the Bormio World Cup, Sarrazin crashed into the netting during his second training run, leading to an airlift to the hospital and subsequent surgery for a subdural haematoma. The French Ski Federation has confirmed that he is now awake and conscious, although he remains hospitalized in a care unit.

Sarrazin's recovery has been stable, and an MRI conducted on December 31 indicates he may be repatriated to France on January 3. Fortunately, aside from a painful foot and knee, no other significant injuries were reported. Sarrazin had a promising start to the season, achieving a top-10 finish in the downhill at Beaver Creek and securing second place in the Super-G. He also won the downhill event in Bormio last season. Meanwhile, the Bormio World Cup races continued without him, with Alexis Monney winning the downhill and Norway’s Fredrik Moller taking the Super-G title.

In other news, Mikaela Shiffrin is making strides in her recovery from a puncture wound and severe muscle trauma sustained during a crash at the Killington World Cup giant slalom. After undergoing unexpected surgery, she has been focusing on regaining her fitness in the gym and is optimistic about returning to snow training soon. Although her recovery has progressed faster than anticipated, it remains uncertain whether she will make a full racing comeback before the season concludes in March.

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde has been recognized at the Aurdal Valdres Alpinsenter in Norway during the Christmas season. Kilde, who has been recovering from long-term injuries, spent the holiday with his family and offered skiing advice to others at the ski area. Despite his achievements, including one World Cup overall title and multiple Olympic and World Championship medals, there is no update on his return to competitive skiing.
