Ljutic`s Triumph: Crystal Globe Secured Amidst Shiffrin`s Glory

Zrinka Ljutic secures her first Crystal Globe despite finishing tenth, while Shiffrin celebrates her 101st victory in a thrilling finale.

In a breathtaking finale at the World Cup Final Slalom in Sun Valley, Zrinka Ljutic from Croatia etched her name into the annals of Alpine skiing history by clinching her first Crystal Globe. Remarkably, Ljutic achieved this monumental feat despite finishing in tenth place, a testament to her consistency throughout the season. Her closest rivals, Camille Rast and Katharina Liensberger, faltered under the pressure, finishing 14th and fifth, respectively, unable to seize the opportunity presented by Ljutic`s performance.

The race itself was dominated by the indomitable Mikaela Shiffrin, who celebrated her 101st career victory with a commanding performance. Shiffrin crossed the finish line 1.13 seconds ahead of Lena Duerr and 1.14 seconds ahead of Andreja Slokar, showcasing her unparalleled skill and determination. “I felt really good... it’s nice to finish the season with this performance,” Shiffrin remarked, embodying the spirit of a champion.

Reflecting on her own achievement, Ljutic expressed her joy, stating, “I got it, it’s mine... I thought I really wanted to charge the second run and it was difficult.” The event not only highlighted the fierce competition but also signaled a promising future for women’s slalom skiing, as new talents emerge to challenge the established stars.
