Jacob Kiplimo and Beatrice Chebet Dominate World Cross Country Championships

The 2024 World Cross Country Championships, held in Belgrade, saw impressive performances from top athletes, with Jacob Kiplimo and Beatrice Chebet standing out as the champions.

In the senior men's race, Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda defended his title, marking his third consecutive victory. Kiplimo completed the course in 289, joining an elite group of athletes including Kenenisa Bekele, Paul Tergat, and Geoffrey Kamworor who have achieved back-to-back senior men’s titles. Berihu Aregawi of Ethiopia took the silver medal with a time of 28:12, while Benson Kiplangat of Kenya secured the bronze in 28:14. The team title was won by Kenya, followed by Uganda and Ethiopia.

On the women's side, Beatrice Chebet of Kenya retained her individual title, becoming the first woman to win back-to-back titles since Tirunesh Dibaba in 2006. Chebet finished the course in 315, leading a Kenyan sweep of the top five positions. Lilian Kasait Rengeruk and Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi took the silver and bronze medals, respectively, with times of 318 and 319. Kenya also secured the team gold ahead of Ethiopia and Uganda.

Other notable performances included Samuel Kibathi winning the U20 men's title and helping Kenya to team gold, while Marta Alemayo led an Ethiopian sweep of the U20 women's podium.
