WSC could leave Crucible, warns Hearn

The World Championship might remain in Sheffield, according to former World Snooker Tour chairman Barry Hearn, but only if a new arena or renovations were made to the Crucible Theatre.

Since 1977, the Crucible—which can only accommodate 980 people—has hosted the premier snooker tournament each year; however, its current lease is set to end in 2027.

A few athletes, including as Iran's Hossein Vafaei and Ronnie O'Sullivan, have complained that the arena is too tiny and that the tournament ought to be held somewhere else—China or Saudi Arabia being two potential locations.
