Na het laatste fluitsignaal lopen drie in het oranje geklede mannen naar de rand van de hoofdtribune van de Paris La Défense Arena. Op de voorkant van hun T-shirt staat een foto van de Nederlandse midvoor Kitty Lynn Joustra. Op de achterkant staat in witte letters: 'Joustra Kit Crew'.
"Dat zijn mijn broers", zegt de 26-jarige Joustra na het duel met Italië lachend in gesprek met NU.nl. "Zelfs mijn broer die naar Australië is geëmigreerd, is drie weken naar Parijs gekomen voor de Spelen. Die support is wel heel leuk."
De waterpolosters hadden in de eerste wedstrijd van de knock-outfase van het olympische toernooi niks te klagen over de steun. In de uitverkochte hal in Nanterre waren heel veel Nederlandse fans. "Ik hoorde de hele wedstrijd 'Hup Holland Hup' en 'Ga staan als je voor Holland bent' vanaf de tribunes", zegt Lieke Rogge. "Dat gaf ons heel veel energie."
