Hong Kong`s Mixed Team Struggles at Badminton Asia 2025

Hong Kong`s badminton team faced tough competition, losing to Indonesia and narrowly defeating Malaysia in the 2025 championships.

Hong Kong faced a challenging campaign at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships 2025, held at the Conson Gymnasium in Qingdao, China. In the group stage, Hong Kong battled Indonesia on February 13 but fell short with a 2-3 defeat, which ultimately dashed their hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals. Earlier, on February 12, Hong Kong secured a narrow victory against Malaysia, winning 3-2, showcasing their potential despite the setback against Indonesia.

Key players in the mixed doubles, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie and Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin, were unable to clinch victories against their Indonesian counterparts. In women`s singles, K. Letshanaa of Malaysia triumphed over Hong Kong`s Saloni Samirbhai. However, there was a bright spot for Hong Kong in women`s doubles, where the pair of Yeung Nga Ting and Yeung Pui Lam emerged victorious against Malaysia`s Teoh Mei Xing and Go Pei Kee.

The tournament also serves as a qualifier for the Sudirman Cup, with the semifinalists guaranteed a spot. The semifinals featured Indonesia against Thailand and China facing Japan, leaving Hong Kong on the sidelines after their group stage performances.
