Grant Fisher Sets New 5,000m World Record at BU Invite

Grant Fisher shattered the 5,000m World Record at the BU Valentine Invitational, clocking 12:44.09.

Grant Fisher made headlines on February 14, 2025, by setting a new World Record in the 5,000 meters at the BU Valentine Invitational. He clocked an astonishing time of 12:44.09, breaking the previous record of 12:49.60 held by Kenenisa Bekele since February 2004. This remarkable feat also eclipsed the American Record of 12:51.61, previously set by Woody Kincaid in 2023.

Fisher`s performance was particularly impressive as it marked his second World Record in just over a week, following his 3,000m Indoor World Record of 7:22.91 achieved at the Millrose Games on February 8. During the race, Fisher strategically positioned himself behind early pacesetters and maintained a strong pace. He pulled away from Jimmy Gressier around the halfway mark, ultimately finishing the last lap in a blistering 29.28 seconds.

Gressier finished in second place, setting a new French National Record with a time of 12:54.92, while Yaseen Abdalla from Arkansas secured third as the top collegian with a time of 139.99. The atmosphere at the BU Valentine Invitational was electric, with fans cheering throughout Fisher`s record-breaking run, underscoring his dominance in indoor track and field events.
