In the ongoing Women’s Ashes series, Australia Women have taken a commanding 6-0 lead in the ODI phase after defeating England Women by 86 runs in the third ODI. Australia set a formidable target, scoring 308/8, with Ash Gardner achieving her maiden ODI century, scoring 102 runs. Tahlia McGrath also contributed significantly with 55 runs. England’s response saw them bowled out for 222, with Natalie Sciver-Brunt scoring 61 runs and Tammy Beaumont adding 54 runs. Alana King was the standout bowler for Australia, taking 5 wickets for 46 runs, while Megan Schutt claimed 3 for 57. The series now transitions to T20Is, with the first match scheduled for January 20, 2025, at the SCG.
Heather Knight, the captain of the senior England women’s team, expressed optimism that the shift to T20 format could help turn around their Ashes series after a disappointing 3-0 defeat in the ODIs. England must win all remaining matches, including three T20Is and the day-night Test at the MCG, to have any hope of reclaiming the Ashes. Knight believes that T20 cricket is one of England’s strengths and that introducing fresh faces into the squad could yield positive results.
On the men’s side, the England squad has arrived in Kolkata for their T20I series against India, which begins on January 23. This series will consist of five T20Is and three ODIs, serving as a crucial warm-up for the upcoming Champions Trophy. The England team, led by Jos Buttler, arrived after a training camp in Dubai, while Indian players, including captain Suryakumar Yadav, came from their respective hometowns. The teams are set to have three training sessions before the first T20I at Eden Gardens, which is expected to draw a full-capacity crowd.
