In this new format, the top 1% of athletes in the Individual men's and women's divisions, or a minimum of 1,200 competitors, will qualify for the Semifinals. Additionally, all teams from the Open will also secure their spots in this next stage. For age-group divisions, the top 2%, or at least 200 athletes, will qualify for Age-Group Semifinals. A significant addition to the season is the Community Cup, which will replace the Quarterfinals for most athletes, fostering a more inclusive environment.
The Semifinals will now be conducted virtually, with athletes completing workouts at their respective affiliates and submitting video evidence of their performances. To ensure fairness and accuracy, each event will require a designated Head Judge and a secondary judge, both of whom must hold a current Level 1 certification or higher and have completed the 2025 Judges Course and Advanced Judges Course.
A new qualifying pathway has also been introduced through ten partnered CrossFit Games qualifying events, where 18 men and 18 women will earn their spots between April and June. The overall field for the CrossFit Games has been reduced to 30 men and 30 women, with prize money now linked to Open registration numbers.
The 2025 CrossFit Games are set to take place at MVP Arena in Albany, New York, from August 1 to August 3. This marks a historic moment as it is the first time the Games will be hosted on the East Coast, promising to attract a wave of new visitors to the Capital Region. MVP Arena, with a seating capacity of up to 15,000, has previously hosted CrossFit events, including the East Regional from 2016 to 2018.
The CrossFit Open will kick off with Workout 25.1, scheduled from February 27 to March 3, followed by additional workouts. Semifinals and In-Person Qualifying Events will occur in April and May, leading up to the Community Cup from June 9-15. This season promises to be an exciting chapter in CrossFit history, with significant changes aimed at enhancing competition and community engagement.
