Kimi Antonelli Makes F1 History at Miami GP

Kimi Antonelli becomes the youngest F1 pole-sitter at the Miami GP, with Oscar Piastri leading practice.

Kimi Antonelli has made headlines by becoming the youngest-ever Formula 1 pole-sitter during the 2025 Miami Grand Prix sprint qualifying. The 18-year-old rookie from Mercedes secured the top position for the upcoming sprint race, showcasing his remarkable talent on the track.

Championship leader Oscar Piastri from McLaren dominated the sole practice session, finishing first, with Ferrari`s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull`s Max Verstappen following closely behind in second and third, respectively. However, the session was interrupted by a late red flag caused by Haas` Oliver Bearman, adding an element of drama to the proceedings.

The sprint race is set to take place at 4 PM local time (9 PM UK) on Saturday, May 3, followed by the main qualifying session at 9 PM UK time. In an exciting development for motorsport fans, the Miami International Autodrome has secured a 10-year contract extension, ensuring that F1 races will continue at this venue until 2041. Attendance figures and detailed results from the sprint race will be available post-event. For more information, check out the F1 Miami GP updates and the Miami GP contract details.
