UMBC Women’s Lacrosse Shines with Historic 4-0 Start

UMBC women`s lacrosse achieves a historic 4-0 start, while Coast Guard men`s lacrosse secures their first win of the season.

UMBC women`s lacrosse achieved a remarkable milestone, securing a 4-0 record for the first time in 25 years after a thrilling 13-10 victory over American. Senior midfielder Katana Nelson led the charge with a game-high five goals, including a pivotal score in the final minutes to clinch the win. Freshman attacker Emily Knapp continued her impressive form, netting her fourth consecutive hat trick, while senior Grace Bruce contributed with two goals.

The Retrievers showcased their dominance in the game, going a perfect 17-of-17 on clears and winning 17-of-27 draws, with junior Lauryn Warfield leading the draw control with eight. The team jumped to an early 3-0 lead, with Nelson, Knapp, and Bruce all finding the net. Despite American`s efforts to close the gap, UMBC maintained their composure, extending their lead to 11-6 in the third quarter. Nelson`s unassisted goal and Libby Staples` assist sealed the victory.

In men`s lacrosse, the Coast Guard Bears broke their six-game losing streak, defeating Nichols 17-7. Eric Key was the standout performer, racking up ten points, while Mason Tucker dominated face-offs. The Bears` strong performance sets a positive tone for the rest of the season.
