Milan Fretin wins stage 4 of Volta ao Algarve, showcasing his sprinting skills and securing his second victory of the season.

Milan Fretin of Cofidis showcased his sprinting prowess by clinching victory on stage 4 of the Volta ao Algarve, held on February 22, 2025. Fretin executed a perfectly timed uphill sprint in Faro, overtaking his competitors in the final 100 meters. He finished ahead of Jordi Meeus from Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe and Filippo Ganna of Ineos Grenadiers, marking his second win of the season after his success at the Clásica de Almería.

The stage commenced in Albufeira and spanned 175 kilometers, featuring several challenging climbs, including the Alto do Malhão and Picota. A four-man breakaway formed early in the race but was caught by the peloton with just 18 kilometers remaining. In the final sprint, EF Education-EasyPost and Intermarché-Wanty led the charge, but Fretin`s explosive finish left his rivals in the dust.

Jan Christen from UAE Team Emirates-XRG maintained his overall lead in the race, holding a four-second advantage over teammate João Almeida. Laurens De Plus of Ineos Grenadiers trails by seven seconds as the riders prepare for the concluding time trial on Sunday. Jonas Vingegaard faced mechanical issues but managed to retain his fifth place overall.
