South Australia Tops One-Day Cup After Victory Over WA

South Australia defeated Western Australia, securing the top spot in the One-Day Cup standings.

South Australia clinched a decisive 44-run victory against Western Australia in the One-Day Cup match at WACA Ground. This win propelled South Australia to the top of the one-day table, positioning them favorably to host the final on March 1. South Australia set a target of 208 runs, with Liam Scott leading the charge, scoring 47 runs. He was well-supported by Jason Sangha (38), Nathan McSweeney (28), Mackenzie Harvey (24), and Henry Thornton (23).

Western Australia`s Mahli Beardman showcased his bowling prowess, taking 4 wickets for 46 runs, dismissing key players including Daniel Drew and Liam Scott. However, Western Australia struggled in their innings, collapsing after a promising start. The turning point came with Sam Fanning`s dismissal by Jason Sangha, leading to a rapid decline in their batting performance. Ultimately, WA was bowled out for 164 runs in 38.5 overs.

The match featured three debutants for Western Australia: Jayden Goodwin, Joel Curtis, and Corey Rocchiccioli, who made a notable impact with figures of 2-38. Lance Morris also contributed with 2-34. A brief revival came from a 77-run partnership between D`Arcy Short (55 off 68) and Ashton Turner (43 off 4, but their departures triggered another batting collapse. Liam Scott excelled with the ball as well, finishing with 3 wickets for 16 runs from eight overs, while Wes Agar, Lloyd Pope, and Harry Conway each took two wickets. This result leaves Western Australia at the bottom of the table with only one win, while South Australia surged ahead of NSW to claim the top spot.
