China Dominates Algeria in Sudirman Cup Opener

China`s 5-0 victory over Algeria in the Sudirman Cup highlights dominant performances by Shi Yuqi and Jiang Zhengbang.

Hosts China kicked off their title defense at the 2025 Sudirman Cup with an impressive 5-0 victory over Algeria in the group stage, held at the Xiamen Fenghuang Gymnasium Court 1. The Chinese team displayed their prowess across all matches, showcasing their strength in badminton.

The world No. 1 mixed doubles duo of Jiang Zhengbang and Wei Yaxin set the tone early, defeating Algeria`s Koceila Mammeri and Tanina Violettle Mammeri with scores of 21-11, 21-13. Wei expressed excitement about making their Sudirman Cup debut, highlighting the significance of each point in team competitions.

In singles, world No. 2 Wang Zhiyi and top-ranked men`s player Shi Yuqi both secured straight-set victories, extending China`s lead to 3-0. Shi Yuqi reflected on his fifth Sudirman Cup appearance, emphasizing his consistent high level of play.

The doubles matches were capped off by Paris Olympic gold medalists Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan in women`s doubles, alongside debutants Chen Boyang and Liu Yi in men`s doubles, both winning 2-0 to complete the clean sweep. This dominant performance places China at the top of Group A standings, alongside Thailand, who also achieved a 5-0 victory against Hong Kong, China.
