Sim Yu Jin`s victory over Wang Zhi Yi highlights major upsets at the Badminton Asia Championships 2025, with thrilling matches ahead.

Korean player Sim Yu Jin delivered a stunning upset at the Bank of Ningbo Badminton Asia Championships 2025, defeating top seed Wang Zhi Yi of China with a score of 21-13, 10-21, 21-13. This victory marks Sim`s third win over Wang in their last five encounters, showcasing her growing prowess on the court.

The tournament has seen several other seeded players exit early, including Indonesia`s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Japan`s Tomoka Miyazaki, and Thailand`s Ratchanok Intanon. Kim Ga Eun of Korea triumphed over Tunjung with a score of 21-19, 21-12, while Gao Fang Jie of China edged past Miyazaki 21-17, 14-21, 21-16. Natsuki Nidaira from Japan also made headlines by defeating Intanon 21-17, 18-21, 21-14.

China`s hopes now rest on second seed Han Yue, who advanced to the quarterfinals with a solid 21-14, 21-11 win against Indonesia`s Komang Ayu Cahaya Dewi. In another thrilling match, Japan`s Akane Yamaguchi narrowly defeated India`s Pusarla V. Sindhu 21-12, 16-21, 21-16. The quarterfinal matchups include Sim Yu Jin vs. Natsuki Nidaira and Akane Yamaguchi vs. Chen Yu Fei.

In mixed doubles, India`s Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto secured their quarterfinal spot by overcoming Chinese Taipei`s Ye Hong Wei and Nicole Chan 12-21, 21-16, 21-18. They will face Hong Kong`s Jordan Tang and Tse Ying Suet next. The tournament, held at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, features a prize pool of $500,000 and has witnessed intense competition from top players across Asia.
