Brisbane Roar`s Historic 8-2 Victory and A-League Women Round 8 Highlights

Round 8 of the A-League Women saw several notable matches, with the Brisbane Roar's extraordinary 8-2 victory over Western United being the standout performance. This match marked one of the most impressive displays in the league's history.

Brisbane Roar's win was spearheaded by Laini Freier, who became the first player in the competition to score consecutive hat-tricks in her first two starts. Her sister, Sharn Freier, also contributed with a brace before being substituted in the second half. Other goals came from Momo Hayashi with a stunning free-kick, Leia Varley with her first competition goal, and Tameka Yallop scoring from a corner.

In another significant match, Melbourne Victory defeated Sydney FC 1-0, thanks to an early penalty converted by Alana Jancevski. This result kept Sydney FC at the bottom of the table with only four points from eight games. Alex Chidiac played a full match for Victory, while Emily Gielnik missed out due to injury.

Melbourne City continued their unbeaten run by coming from behind to beat the Wellington Phoenix 2-1. The Phoenix took the lead through Olivia Fergusson, but City responded in the second half with an own goal and a header from Laura Hughes.

Adelaide United secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers, with Erin Healy scoring the decisive goal after coming off the bench. Matilda McNamara played the full match for Adelaide.

The round also saw a scoreless draw between Canberra United and Newcastle Jets, despite Canberra having the better of the opportunities.
