AFL Supplemental Selection Period Updates

As the AFL supplemental selection period (SSP) continues, several clubs are actively bolstering their rosters with new signings and trial invitations. One of the notable moves is Quinton Narkle's signing with Fremantle. Narkle, a former Port Adelaide and Geelong small forward, brings flexibility and multiple role capabilities, which Fremantle list boss David Walls highlighted as a key asset[4].

Essendon has also made significant additions, signing ex-Brisbane utility Jaxon Prior, who is expected to add defensive half depth in 2025. Prior had been linked to Essendon during the trade period and has now made his move official. Additionally, Essendon VFL product Will Hoare and delisted forward Kaine Baldwin will be trialed in the AFL program[4].

Port Adelaide is assessing impressive talent, including North Melbourne VFL product Jack Watkins, who has averaged 24.9 disposals and 5.6 inside-50s in 18 VFL games. Another player, Josh Lai, described as `explosive,` will also train with the club[4].

Carlton, with two vacant list spots, is giving opportunities to VFL standout Liam McMahon and former Hawthorn defender Denver Grainger-Barras. McMahon had a standout season with the Magpies’ reserves, while Grainger-Barras's ability to play at either end of the field is seen as valuable[4].

The Western Bulldogs have afforded a train-on chance to JJ Liston Trophy winner Dominic Brew, who averaged 28.5 disposals across 21 VFL games. West Coast Eagles will assess former Gold Coast-listed defender Sandy Brock and delisted backman Coby Burgiel. Gold Coast has announced the train-on additions of Southport rebounder Ben Jepson and delisted 23-year-old Hewago Oea[4].
