Crows Blaze Past Essendon as AFL Round 2 Unfolds

Adelaide Crows dominate Essendon in AFL Round 2, while Sydney Swans secure their first win of the season.

Adelaide Crows showcased their dominance in Round 2 of the AFL, delivering a staggering 25-goal victory over Essendon. Their performance was highlighted by an impressive ability to capitalize on 69 turnovers from the Dons, scoring eight goals from those mistakes in the first half alone. David King described the Crows as "on fire," solidifying their status as dark horse premiership contenders.

Despite the heavy loss, Essendon’s captain Zach Merrett stood out with 36 disposals and four goals, alongside debutant Tom Edwards, who provided a glimpse of hope for the struggling side. Richmond also shone brightly this round, receiving a perfect grade for their performance.

In a nail-biting encounter, Sydney Swans secured their first win of the season against Fremantle, overcoming a goalless first quarter to clinch a three-point victory. James Jordon’s midfield prowess and Joel Amartey’s match-winning goal were pivotal in the Swans` success.

Brisbane Lions` coach Chris Fagan expressed frustration over the AFL`s decision to schedule a noon game in sweltering conditions, resulting in a record number of cramps among his players. Meanwhile, Essendon faces injury concerns ahead of their upcoming clash with Port Adelaide, with Elijah Tsatas ruled out. The AFL has also issued a notice to West Coast`s Harley Reid regarding his gestures to the crowd during a match.
