UMBC Women Shine at America East Championships

UMBC women excel at America East Championships, with standout performances from Stephens, McDonald, and Abongwa, while La Salle`s Usher shines at Atlantic 10.

UMBC`s women`s outdoor track and field team delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 America East Championships, finishing fifth at the University of New Hampshire. Genelle Stephens led the charge, clinching gold in the 400-meter hurdles with a remarkable new school record of 58.86 seconds. Leanne McDonald also stood out, winning gold in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.74 seconds. Additionally, Marie Abongwa secured gold in the shot put with a throw of 13.68 meters. The team capped off their strong showing by winning the 4 x 400 relay.

On the men`s side, the UMBC team placed second overall, accumulating 145 points. Alpha Balde made headlines by setting a new meet record in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 20.81 seconds. The men`s team also earned gold medals in the discus and the 4 x 800 relay.

At the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships, La Salle`s Helene Usher showcased her talent by securing a silver medal in the women`s 10k with a time of 35:15.43. Meanwhile, Matt Hill earned a bronze medal in the men`s 10k, finishing in 30:45.96.
