世界田径协会发布了提名为最佳男女运动员的名单。女子组中有3位非洲选手入选，其中肯尼亚选手Faith Kipyegon是1500米和5000米世界冠军，同时还保持1500米、一英里和5000米的世界纪录。Gudaf Tsegay也获得了10000米世界冠军，并且以世界纪录赢得了5000米的钻石联赛冠军。此外，埃塞俄比亚选手Tigist Assefa是柏林马拉松的冠军，同时也是马拉松的世界纪录保持者。获奖者将于2023年12月11日公布。
