The star of the show was undoubtedly Nitesh Kumar, who dazzled with three gold medals: one in men’s singles SL3, another in mixed doubles SL3-SU5 alongside Thulasimathi Murugesan, and the third in men’s doubles SL3-SL4 with Sukant Kadam. The men’s doubles final was a nail-biter, featuring an all-India showdown where Kumar and Kadam triumphed over Jagadesh Dilli and Naveen Sivakumar with scores of 21-17, 11-21, 21-11. Additionally, Manisha Ramadass secured gold in the women’s singles SU5 category, further solidifying India’s prowess in para-badminton.
India`s dominance extended to the mixed doubles SL3-SU5 event, where they swept the podium with gold, silver, and bronze medals. The bronze in men’s doubles SL3-SL4 was claimed by Mohammad Arwaz Ansari and Abhijeet Sakhuja. The tournament showcased not only the athletes` talent but also the growing strength of Indian para-badminton on the continental stage, marking a significant milestone in the sport`s development in India, as highlighted in this badminton event.
