Gambia upset Morocco in a dramatic 3-2 (25-15, 25-27, 25-21, 20-25, 16-14) victory on Friday at the indoor sport hall in Abuja in the ongoing U19 African Nation’s Volleyball Championship.
These two teams promised a competitive match. However, it was going to be tough for Morocco as Gambia dominated the first set.
Both teams wanted to assert themselves and get an early lead. Gambia were at the better side as they lead at 16-12 at the second technical timeout. Massive spikes outplayed with good double blocking as Gambia took the set 25-15.
Morocco came strong in the second set as they led 6-3. Quick sets and clever distribution of the ball from Gambia got them in the front 8-6 at the first technical timeout. They spiked well to take the lead 16-15 in the 2nd set. Morocco fought hard for a 27-25 second set win.
Powerful serving from Gambia helped give them the edge to take the lead 16-12. Gambia got competitive again as the teams nailed a headshot and went go on to win 25-21.
Morocco took a narrow early lead 8-7, they were confident going afterwards and took advantage of their momentum to gain the upper hand 16-8. The Moroccan wins confidently 25-20.
It was all to play for in the ultimate set. Morocco took an early lead 10-7, before Gambia level it 10all. Both teams fought hard but it was Gambia that stole the show at 16-14.
