[Zambia] Sports Minister Graces FAZ Event As ABSA Cup Draws Unveiled

The draws for the 2021 ABSA Cup have been unveiled with six-time champions Zesco United facing debutants Kansanshi Dynamos while Zanaco will face Kabwe Warriors in the quarterfinals.

In the remaining two fixtures Lusaka Dynamos will take on Prison Leopards while Forest Rangers will be up against Konkola Blades.

Sports Minister Emmanuel Mulenga officiated at the draws and reiterated government’s desire to help in the development of sport.

Mulenga also hailed ABSA Bank for having stuck to sponsoring the K3.8 million rich competition amidst the raging Covid-19 pandemic.

He also thanked ABSA Bank for being resilient and weathered the Covid-19 storm to hold the tournament.

And FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said the 2021 ABSA Cup would be better with a hint at bumping up the K600, 000 prize money announced by the sponsor.

Kamanga thanked ABSA Bank for being an all-weather partner in the development of football.

He urged other corporate bodies to emulate ABSA Bank and pick-up other sponsorship activities available in the game.

Meanwhile ABSA Managing Director Mizinga Melu said that ABSA had increased the sponsorship for the 2021 edition to K3.8 million.

Melu said the Man of the Match will pocket K15, 000 while the coach of the tournament will walk away with K25, 000.

The quarterfinals will be held on March 13-14 at Woodlands Stadium while the semifinals will be staged on April 17-18 at Arthur Davies Stadium.

FAZ and ABSA have set the final for the weekend of April 24-25 at a venue to be advised.

The ABSA Cup draws participation from the top six Super League teams while the top two National Division One sides at mid-season completing the draw.
