Nigeria Women begin their quest for the sole ticket to the 2025 ICC Women's U19 T20 World Cup with a win against Tanzania in the African Qualifiers on Sunday at the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Cricket centre in Kigali, Rwanda.
Placed in Group B, Tanzania won the toss and choose to bat first against Nigeria and posted a commanding total of 108/8 in 20 overs, but the Nigeria Junior Yellow Green chased down Tanzania’s target, scoring 111/6 in 16.5 overs to win the game by 4 wickets.
Lillian Ude was named Player of the Match against Tanzania With 3 overs ,12 Runs and 5 Wickets.
In the other group game, Zimbabwe secured a dominant 144-run victory over Malawi, with a stellar 142-run partnership between Kelis Ndhlovu (74*) and Beloved Biza (86). Malawi bowled out for 51 runs. A powerful performance to start their campaign.
Nigeria's next game is against Zimbabwe at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium in Kigali on Monday September 23rd.
Fourteen teams are already through to the World Cup, they include the 10 full-member teams from the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa – Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. Tournament hosts Malaysia, Samoa (winners of the East Asia-Pacific regional qualifier), Scotland (winners of the Europe regional qualifier), and the USA, who received automatic qualification as the only team in the Americas region to meet the criteria required for the qualification pathway
