Paris 2024: Onyinyechi Gives Nigerians Bragging Rights, Clinches First Gold Medal For Team Nigeria With World Record

Nigeria won her first Gold medal in the 2024 Paralympics Games in Paris through Para Powerlifting. 

 

Onyinyechi Mark Clinched Nigeria first Gold Medal in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games by winning the 61kg of Women's Para Powerlifting.

 

Onyinyechi who started the competition as the World  Record holder lifted 140kg in her first  attempt to lead the way.

 

In her second attempt she lifted 145kg and broke the Paralympic Record of 142kg set set by her compatriots Ejike in Rio 2016.

 

 

Already guarantee a Gold medal after Chinese Jianjin Cui lifted  140kg in her attempt, the Umuahia born went further in her third attempt and lifted 147kg to break her  own World Record of 146kg she set at the World Championship.

 

It didn't end there as  she went ahead to  break the World Record she set with her third lift  by lifting 150kg to set a new World Record. 

 

Onyinyechi Gold medal makes it third Medals for Team Nigeria in the Paralympic Games after Esther Nworgu wins Silver in Para Powerlifting and Miriam Eniola won Bronze in Badminton.
