Australia Takes Early Lead in Women`s Ashes

Australia has made a strong start in the Women's Ashes series, securing a four-wicket victory over England in the first One Day International (ODI) held in Sydney. The match showcased a remarkable performance by Ash Gardner, who took 3 wickets for just 19 runs and contributed an unbeaten 42 runs, leading her team to victory with 11 overs to spare.

England batted first and set a total of 204 runs. Key contributions came from Heather Knight with 39 runs, Danni Wyatt-Hodge who added 38, and Amy Jones with 31. However, England's innings suffered a significant collapse, losing five wickets for just 47 runs, which allowed Australia's bowlers to capitalize effectively.

Alyssa Healy played a crucial role for Australia, scoring 70 runs before being dismissed by Charlie Dean. Despite an early setback with the dismissal of Phoebe Litchfield, Gardner's all-round performance was instrumental in ensuring Australia's win, giving them a 2-0 lead on points in the series.

The match attracted a record crowd of 6,236 at North Sydney Oval, highlighting the growing interest in women's cricket. England's bowlers, Lauren Filer and Sophie Ecclestone, each took two wickets, but it was not enough to stop the Australian side. Both Gardner and Healy, returning from injuries, set a positive tone for the remainder of the series.
