Ashwin`s Legacy: Cummins and Lyon Equal WTC Record

Ravichandran Ashwin, the recently retired Indian off-spinner, has left an indelible mark on cricket history. His record for the most wickets in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) has been equaled by Australian Test captain Pat Cummins and senior spinner Nathan Lyon. This achievement came during Australia's dominant 184-run win over India in the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The match saw a brilliant all-round performance from the Australian team. Pat Cummins led by example, scoring 90 runs and picking 6 wickets across two innings. He was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance, which included three crucial wickets in the second innings. Nathan Lyon also played a significant role, claiming two wickets to join Cummins in this historic feat.

Cummins and Lyon now share the record of 195 wickets each in WTC history, a testament to their exceptional bowling skills. This achievement places them alongside Ashwin, who retired with 195 wickets from 78 innings. The trio is part of only five bowlers to take over 150 wickets since the inception of the WTC in 2019.

The fourth Test match has given Australia a 2-1 lead in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The final Test will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3, with Team India aiming to win and book a place in the 2023-25 WTC final.
