Tennis Action Heats Up in Brisbane and Auckland

The tennis world is abuzz with action from the Brisbane and Auckland tournaments, marking the end of 2024 and the beginning of the new season.

In Brisbane, the WTA 500 tournament saw several key matches on December 28. On Show Court 1, Maddison Inglis secured a win against Anastasia Sobolieva with a score of 6-3, 6-0 in the qualifying round 2[4].

At the same venue, Richard Gasquet defeated wild card entry Daniel Pham with a score of 6-1, 6-2 in the qualifying round 1. Another notable match on Show Court 2 saw Lucas Pouille face off against Jason Kubler, with Pouille emerging victorious[4].

In Auckland, the WTA 250 tournament also witnessed exciting matches. On the stadium court, Michaela Barry, a wild card entry, lost to Ena Shibahara with a score of 7-6(6), 6-4 in the qualifying round 1. Nao Hibino defeated Eudice Chong Tse with a score of 6-4, 6-2 in another qualifying round 1 match[4].

These matches set the stage for the upcoming Australian Open, which will kick off on January 12, 2025, at Melbourne Park.
