The match seemed destined for a draw until a handball by Blackpool's Olly Casey in the 88th minute awarded Wrexham a penalty. Experienced striker Steven Fletcher stepped up and calmly slotted the penalty home, securing the win for Wrexham.
This victory keeps Wrexham in third place in League One, just a point behind Wycombe in second, although Wrexham have played more games. Both Wycombe and league leaders Birmingham City also won on Boxing Day.
Wrexham, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, continue their strong form after back-to-back promotions and will next face Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
