Real Madrid Leapfrogs Barcelona with 4-2 Win Over Sevilla

Real Madrid secured a significant victory over Sevilla on Sunday, December 22, 2024, with a 4-2 scoreline at the Santiago Bernabéu. This win marked the last game of veteran player Jesus Navas' professional career.

The match saw Real Madrid dominate early, with Kylian Mbappé opening the scoring after just 10 minutes, followed by a goal from Fede Valverde in the 20th minute. Rodrygo extended Real Madrid's lead to 3-0 just a minute into the second half. Sevilla managed to pull one back through Isaac Romero's header, but Brahim Diaz restored Real Madrid's three-goal advantage in the 53rd minute. Dodi Lukebakio scored a late consolation goal for Sevilla in the 85th minute, making the final score 4-2.

This victory propelled Real Madrid into second place in the La Liga standings, just one point behind leaders Atletico Madrid. Real Madrid now has 40 points, while Barcelona, who lost to Atletico Madrid 2-1 on Saturday, dropped to third place with 38 points.

The La Liga will now enter its Christmas break, with no fixtures scheduled for the rest of the year. The next match for Real Madrid will be against Valencia on January 3, 2025, at Mestalla Stadium, a match that was previously postponed due to Storm Dana.
