Noah Lyles Defies 'World Champion' Notion

Noah Lyles, the dominant sprinter, has long been critical of the term "world champion" used in the NBA. As he stated, "Champion of the world, but champion of what? Make no mistake, I love the United States, but it's not the world. In track and field, we have the world. We have almost every country fighting here". This sentiment was evident last summer when Lyles became a triple world champion, winning the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m events.

This Sunday, Lyles achieved a career milestone by becoming an Olympic champion for the first time in Paris. And he has set his sights on an unprecedented quadruple challenge: winning the 100m, 200m, 4x100m, and 4x400m events. Emerging victorious in the 100m with a time of 9.79 seconds, Lyles beat not only his American compatriots but also two Jamaicans, two Africans, and a European athlete.
