Romain Bardet claims first yellow jersey in Stage

Romain Bardet made history on Saturday by winning the first stage of the largest race in the world and earning the first yellow jersey of the Tour de France of this year and his career.

The Frenchman, who has twice been on the Tour podium and declared his retirement for June of next year, attacked 50 kilometers from the finish line and won five seconds over Belgium's Wout van Aert thanks to the excellent and selfless performance of his DSM–Firmenich PostNL teammate Frank van den Broek.
