Steven convicted of rape set for Olympics

The Dutch beach volleyball player who was convicted of raping a 12-year-old British child will play for the country in the Olympics in Paris.

The 29-year-old Steven van de Velde was given a four-year prison sentence in 2016 after he admitted to three counts of rape against a minor that happened in August 2014.

Van de Velde traveled from Amsterdam to the UK after finding his victim on Facebook, whereupon he sexually assaulted her at a Milton Keynes location.
