Kerr breaks Cram's 39-year-old British mile record

At the Diamond League meet in Oregon, Josh Kerr defeated Jakob Ingebrigtsen and shattered the 39-year-old British mile record held by Steve Cram.

For the first time since Kerr surprised the Olympic champion by winning the 1500 meters at the World Championships the previous year, the two adversaries were competing against one another.

Leading into the last mile loop, the Scot managed to hold off Ingebrigtsen and win in a time of three minutes 45.34 seconds. Neil Gourley and Jake Wightman, two more British competitors, finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
