Villa face Fonseca's young Lille built

Paulo Fonseca has traveled all around Europe, polishing his football identity, from Portugal to France via Ukraine and Italy, but his teams' main takeaway has always been to have fun.

The 51-year-old will lead his youthful Lille team to England on Thursday for their Europa Conference League quarterfinal first leg against Aston Villa. Three years ago, he was on the verge of leaving Lille due to unfulfilled talks with Tottenham.

Rebuilding a Lille club that was shorn of its top players after winning the Ligue 1 title in 2021, the Portuguese manager has spent the last two seasons doing so after success in Portugal, three consecutive Doubles with Shakhtar Donetsk, and "growing a lot" with Roma.
