Watanabe`s Joyous Tour Finals Debut Stuns Fans

Watanabe`s Tour Finals debut electrifies fans, while Velavan wins bronze at Asian Championships and US Nationals heat up.

World No.7 Watanabe is riding high on a wave of excitement as she makes her much-anticipated debut at the Tour Finals. Climbing from No.16 in the Road to Tour Finals standings earlier this year, her remarkable second half of the season has propelled her to this prestigious event. "I am overjoyed," Watanabe expressed, capturing the essence of her hard work and determination.

Meanwhile, the US National Championships are heating up in Philadelphia, where top seeds Olivia Weaver and Timmy Brownell have advanced to the finals with commanding straight-game victories. Weaver triumphed over Sabrina Sobhy 3-0, while Brownell dispatched Dillon Huang with the same scoreline. In a thrilling semi-final, Amanda Sobhy saved a match ball to edge past Marina Stefanoni 3-2, and Nicholas Spirrizzi overcame second seed Shahjahan Khan 3-1.

On the international stage, Indian player Velavan Senthilkumar clinched a bronze medal at the Asian Squash Championships 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, marking his second consecutive continental medal after winning silver in 2023.

In Australia, the Australian Nationals are set to unfold, with defending champion Joseph White facing Tate Norris in the men`s quarter-finals, while Jessica Van der Walt, Madison Lyon, Sarah Cardwell, and Alex Haydon all secured straight-game victories in the women`s quarter-finals.

Additionally, significant changes to the sport`s regulations were approved by World Squash member federations at an Extraordinary General Meeting on June 14, 2025.
