Former Chinese Football Official Sentenced to 11 Years in Prison for Bribery
In a sweeping crackdown on corruption among government officials, a Chinese court sentenced Li Yuyi, the former vice president of the Chinese Football Association (CFA), to 11 years in prison for accepting bribes. Li was found guilty of accumulating over $1.6 million in money and gifts through his position at the CFA between 2004 and 2021. The court also ordered the confiscation of his ill-gotten gains. This sentence comes on the heels of the former CFA president's life imprisonment for accepting nearly $10.8 million in bribes, underscoring President Xi Jinping's drive to root out corruption in the sports sector.
