Ex-sergeant jailed over horse racing betting fraud

A former police officer was sentenced to prison for defrauding hundreds of participants in a horse racing betting syndicate in order to finance his opulent lifestyle.
Before his arrest in 2019, Michael Stanley acknowledged misappropriating funds from Layezy Racing Syndicate members for a number of years.
Terry Wildey, a retired hairdresser from Kent, claimed that after encouraging his own relatives to invest, he and his family had contributed £200,000 to the plan.
