Zheng Qinwen defeated world number five Elena Rybakina 7-6 (7/4), 3-6, 6-1 in Riyadh on Monday, increasing her prospects of reaching the WTA Finals semi-finals.
After losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the first round of robin, the seventh-seeded Zheng bounced back to win her first match over Rybakina in three encounters.
With one more round-robin match against Sabalenka on Wednesday, Rybakina is headed for elimination after suffering her second loss in as many games this week in Saudi Arabia.
