Niger Tornadoes defeated Rangers 2-1, while Sunshine Stars edged Ikorodu City 4-3 in thrilling NPFL matches.

Niger Tornadoes made a statement in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) by defeating reigning champions Rangers 2-1 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu. This victory served as sweet revenge for the Tornadoes, who had previously fallen to Rangers 1-0. Ismael Ishak Saraki set the tone early, scoring in the 17th minute, but Rangers quickly responded with an equalizer from Collins Ugwueze just four minutes later. The decisive moment came in the 64th minute when Ifeanyi Okechukwu netted the winner, silencing the home crowd.

Rangers had a chance to salvage a point late in the match but squandered a penalty opportunity when Chiedozie Okorie struck the crossbar. This defeat marked Rangers` second consecutive home loss, leaving them five points adrift of league leaders Rivers United.

In another exciting encounter, Sunshine Stars triumphed over Ikorodu City in a thrilling 4-3 match at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. Sunshine Stars initially surged ahead with a commanding 3-0 lead, but Ikorodu City mounted a fierce comeback, narrowing the gap to 3-2. Sunshine Stars managed to extend their lead once more, and despite late pressure from Ikorodu City, they held on for the victory.

Nasarawa United also boosted their survival hopes with a narrow 1-0 win against Katsina United, adding to the drama of the NPFL`s return from its mid-season break.
