Cuban wrestler Mijain Lopez, at nearly 42 years old, became the first athlete to win five consecutive Olympic gold medals in the same individual event, defeating Chile's Yasmani Acosta 6-0 in the heavyweight Greco-Roman final. This surpasses the four-peat records held by the likes of Carl Lewis, Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky, and others. A living legend of his sport, Lopez came out of retirement after Tokyo 2020 to achieve this historic feat, which required exceptional longevity at the highest level.
