Future of boxing Ennis retains welterweight title

Rising American talent Jaron Ennis was lauded as "the future of boxing" after stopping opponent David Avanesyan in the fifth round to hold onto the IBF world welterweight title.

For the first time in almost a year, Ennis, 27, was competing, and while he received some blows from his more seasoned opponent, Ennis's talent and strength were too much for the Russian.

Before taking it up in the third round to impress over 14,000 supporters at the Wells Fargo Center in his hometown of Philadelphia, he prevailed over some tough early rounds.
