Hurkacz reaches second round in return to tennis

Poland’s number two seed Hubert Hurkacz reached the second round of the Japan Open tennis competition with a 6-4, 6-7 (5/7), 6-4 triumph over American Marcos Giron on Wednesday.
Hurkacz was participating in his first match since the US Open second round last month, when he was defeated by Australian Jordan Thompson.
Taylor Fritz, a finalist at the US Open, is the top seed in Tokyo. On Thursday, he plays his opening match against Arthur Fils of France.
