Maria Sakkari wins first Grand Slam

At the Australian Open, Greek eighth seed Maria Sakkari defeated Japan's Nao Hibino to win her maiden Grand Slam match of the year.

The 28-year-old went out in the first round of the last three Grand Slams but needed just 71 minutes to win 6-4 6-1 on Rod Laver Arena.


"It was a difficult match emotionally but I'm happy," she stated.
