After the first night of competition at the 2023 European Short Course Championships, Great Britain has jumped ahead of the competition in the medal standings.

Abbie Wood led Team GB to a commanding victory in the 400 IM (4:27.45) at the start of the session, and the men's 4×50 freestyle relay set a new national record (1:22.52) to cap off the evening's events. During the session, they also won a bronze in the women's 4x50 free relay and a silver in the 400 IM for Freya Colbert. They take the lead
